I really don’t know what to say about Aston Martin Cygnet. A pointless car or a huge marketing achievement. Today Aston Martin announced the price of Cygnet (Aston Martin’s city car based on Toyota iQ) and it is priced at £ 40 000 (€ 47 000 / $ 63 000). This price tag to a car which is based on a Toyota is a real question mark!
In terms of marketing; Aston Martin did a piece of art vehicle. Exterior and interior design of Cygnet is a great interpretation of Aston Martin design concept. You can see the each detail of Aston Martin identity on Cygnet. The air holes on bonnet, the front look, the precision in interior design and high quality interior. Honestly Cygnet’s interior is one of the best interiors on market. You can buy this car just for its interior design. Unfortunately there are some buttons transferred from Toyota too! This was unavoidable, overall it is a real piece of art Toyota.
The pricing is very well designed like the interior. £40 000 is a good price to prevent people who cannot afford to buy a descent Aston Martin and end up in Cygnet! This is serious problem for brand extension. You just introduce a new lower segment car and new customers adore it but your royal customers run away. 
High price means one thing, this car is not for you! If you are planning to buy an Audi A3 and you just waited for Cygnet for your new car, you made a mistake. Cygnet is not an alternative for A3 or Golf or Focus consumers. £40 000 means, this car should be bought by people who already have an Aston Martin or Bentley or Ferrari or Rolls Royce or anything which does not fit to narrow city roads. People who do not wish to destroy their style by small city cars are the target group. And there are lots of people like this! However I know that many people will save money to own an Aston Martin and they will buy one Cygnet, and they will say I have an Aston Martin.
Let’s see the real picture. Cygnet is based on Toyota iQ and expect the design, the rest is the same. Engine, transmission, exhaust, suspension and this list goes on! Unfortunately iQ is not a luxury vehicle and does not offer something special. Aston Martin did their best to redefine the iQ but this is the limit. 
For £40 000, you will get a 1,3lt Toyota engine which is the same engine in iQ, there is nothing changed. Two gearboxes, a manual and an automatic. The automatic is an automated manual transmission, which means it will be terrible. The suspension remained the, the rear suspension is a torsion bar. And this means, there is no proper suspension on rear wheels. The pot holes can be felt by your whole body. This technology is cheaper than a descent suspension and mostly present in budget cars (Renault Clio, Peugeot 206, Toyota Auris). This means the traditional Aston Martin comfort may not be present in Cygnet also.
And lastly, you can buy a descent second hand DB9 for £40 000 and it would be a proper car. I know the main target group of Cygnet is the customers who already have an Aston Martin and don’t like second hand car.In my opinion, we can see a very interesting target group for this car. A totally unexpected customer group may end up in dealer. This happened with Tata Nano, a cheap car for poor people and rich people in India bought Nano for daily driving. Cygnet will be a Kinder Surprise for everyone.
Why Aston Martin did this crazy thing? Because, they have to reduce their CO2 levels upcoming EU regulations. Unfortunately Aston Martin is a lonely brand unlike others. Bentley, Bugatti, Porsche are sub brands of Volkswagen, Ferrari is a sub brand of Fiat, Mercedes and BMW have low emission vehicles. So except, Aston Martin everyone can reduce their overall CO2 level to satisfy future EU regulation. For Aston Martin, offering a car based on iQ was the best option.
Honestly if I have chance, I might buy a Cygnet. I really like small city cars with nice interior and high quality interior. Pictures' Copyrights

I do know that Aston Martin is a very sexy car! However things are not that good with Toyota iQ based Aston Martin Cygnet! That's the best looking small car with pathetic infrastructure. I really admire the work of Aston Martin design team, they have created the best looking small car ever produced on earth! This car can be classified as a sculpture.The magnificent front look of Aston Martin transformed into Cygnet, that's a most important reason to buy this car. Actually when you see its front, you will forget the rest, and try not to drive that much ;) I did not have change to drive Cygnet, probably I may not have it for long time. But I really wish to see that Aston Martin not only designed a new sophisticated car but also offering the similar driving characteristics of Aston Martin to Cygnet.
A few hours ago, I have just seen the new pictures of Cygnet! And it will be ladies most favourite car :) Now Aston Martin Cygnet is offering various paint jobs. You can have animal print, your favourite paint or anything else. It is totally unlimited! This is very good way to add a character to a car; everyone knows, that's a Toyota but by this way it will have a very unique advantage. Actually it is very good way to differentiate the product ;)
From now on, I am pretty sure that, ladies who never thought about Cygnet will be asking to have one with their favourite animal print which is matching with their hand bags and shoes ;) And you can see this kind of fashion photo in Vogue in near future :) Which shoes fits with your Cygnet best ! Cars are becoming part of fashion ;)

Aston Martin's Toyota iQ based new small car Cygnet is targeting youngs. Very interesting! As they announced, Cygnet will be sold only to current Aston Martin owners, I really wonder how they could those young people with Aston Martin :) They could find some in Russia, China and in Gulf Countries! Overall, we can say that, this is the most effective PR campaign every made. Targeting to a group which cannot buy the product! Is this second Smart disaster?I was expecting to see a more powerul Cygnet and not sharing engine with Toyota. Also, if they could manage to make it rear wheel driven and exhaust bypass valves like in proper Aston Martin. Even if you were driving your micro Aston Martin, you could have the chance to hear similar sound. The most important thing; they should have remapped the engine to produce more power and torque to differentiate from Toyota iQ.

I pretty sure that, many people will say yes this questions. But I have bad news; as published on NYTimes.com, Cygnet the very small Toyota iQ based Aston Martin is reserved for Aston Martin owners :(
And micro Aston Martin's engine will not remmaped or increase its power! Why don't you say more basically we don't want to invest on new engine, we will try to see with Toyota engine. Very nice decision.
I really want to see how the Russian billionaires and petrol riched Gulf people will comment on this car!
And the price is very reasonable, around £20,000 - £30,000. I cannot deny the interior is very made and it has the Aston Martin design clues but that's all.
If you want to a buy an Aston Martin based on Toyota with 1.3lt 100 horsepower engine and top speed of 170 km/h and front wheel drive; go for it!
If you buy this car, you won't have any pleasure like other Aston Martin!

Cygnet is the new "pure" Aston Martin. I said pure because it is based on Toyota iQ, which is very nice car with sophicticated engineering. But Aston Martin just made a make-up and design a new clothes with same structure from Toyota iQ and will sell it as Aston Martin.Come on, at least increase the power of the car or remap the engine control unit or any other tricks to make more Aston Martin less Toyota.
So, people will pay a lot extra for Aston Toyota Martin. Sorry but this car won't sell! Ugly Truth.
Mercedes did with Smart, people do not buy cheap looking cars from luxury brands. Especially for Aston Martin, Cygnet is disaster.
I really admire Dr. Bez but I was not expecting to see too much Toyota too less Aston Martin.
(By the way, it looks like Aston Martin Smart.)
