Nowadays Toyota's quality is started to erode! First started with sticking gas pedal, then brake pedal and finally steering wheel. Eventually; all the vital parts of a car broke down in Toyota. The interesting thing is; gas pedal and steering wheel are the oldest parts of a car and they were being manufactured for very long years. And Toyota does not offer any sophisticated steering wheel like BMW or Audi; and gas pedal is the same one which you could find in a Tata Nano.
I don't understand how Toyota managed to ruin very basic things! They always claimed that we are producing the best car on earth and one of the most boring ones also! I always said; Toyota is making cars which never breaks down and lack of any ergonomics, lack of design, lack of plastic quality, lack of handling, lack of a proper watch not a digital one and lack of status. Yes, it has second hand value!
And people addicted to Toyota's problem free cars and they don't see anything else. One of my father's friend told me that, except Toyota nobody has ever recalled cars for a problem! Sorry, this is wrong! Mercedes has a problem with SBC Brake system and they recalled many cars and it cost about 50 million € in 2004. And time to time; Ford, BMW, VW or any other manufacturer is recalling their cars, if they found a production failure. But none of them recalled for gas pedal or steering wheel like Toyota. If this happened with Lancia, I would say this is an Italian car and they might have production problem. However it happened in Toyota! And people so addicted to Toyota, they are resisting to accept that "this is a very basic part of a car" and it should be working. And also Toyota is not like German car companies to introduce new technology and take serious risks. Yes, Toyota do introduce new technologies but not like Germans! And interestingly; many German cars don't have any problem. Even the Italian ones! Even if they have a problem, these brand constructed an emotional relationship between "brand" and "customer" and this helps them to overcome these kinds of problems.
I do hope that, Toyota will recover this problem and will not prefer to reduce price! And Toyota, please hire designers from Pinifarina, Muji or find new graduates in Imperial College or Italian design school to offer better looking cars.
